The Onyx is a slightly translucent, sometimes black sometimes alternatively black and white layered chalcedony. According to
mythology its origin lies in goddess’ Venus finger-nails split by one of Cupid’s arrows. Its name derives from Greek ‘ónux’,
finger-nail. Most of the Onyx today available is mat and black.
In ancient times the Onyx was used in fertility rituals. It is said to improve physical and sexual energies.
